The fight for control of Terra, staged by the two supreme powers in the universe, began and ended on the island nation of Athlan ages ago, when the world was a rougher, cruder and more dangerous place. That battle ended in a bloody draw and both sides withdrew to lick their wounds.
Thousands of years later, the Powers decide to renew the conflict for control. The Traveler of Light and the Traveler of Dark select their paladins on Terra and plans are put into motion to renew the battle for conquest.
The game board of Terra is filled with competing players, but there are three main combatants: Mother Earth, the mind/soul of the planet, the Bas Crulach, earthly representative of the Angeal Dorcada, who is the driving force behind the effort of the Dark Traveler to control the world, and a select group of humans who have been chosen by the four Angeals of Light to constitute of a core of goodness and grace to resist and, if possible, overcome the powers of Darkness.
In addition, a group of warrior- priests, The Soldiers of the One True God, which fought valiantly on the side of the Light on Athlan so long ago, resurfaces. Their leader, Ian Mac Truan, is plagued by one dream which demands that he travel east to the “Hill of Skulls,” which is completely unknown to him, to save people he knows nothing about, for no good reason. None-the-less, he must follow his dream, and the quest begins.
While the Four Angeals find their human representatives, who will become “The Four”, “Mac” and his “Brothers” begin their journey to a strange land, but are quickly side-tracked by an ancient sorceress, who hi-jacks their quest and makes it, in part, her own. Her name is Scathach- the epitome of dark magic. The relationship between the righteous MacTruan and the evil Scathach grows in intensity during the journey- a paradoxical, and perhaps, dangerous joining of good and evil.
Mac and Scathach become entangled with Roman politics, Jewish religious demands, and the minions of the Dark Lord- a volatile mixture which seals their fate.
And, while Mac and Scathach try to make sense of their relationship and the world, the forces of the Lord of Light and the Dark Lord inexorably move their pieces across the board of Terra, setting the stage for the final battle to come.
